Helping put the planet first
At phs Besafe, we do all that we can to help employers meet their obligations to provide suitable workwear to maintain a safe working environment. We’re not only meticulous about the garments that we supply and maintain, we’re also careful to ensure that we provide our services in a conscientious manner.
So, we were delighted to have recently been able to help one of our suppliers in their efforts to maintain a different kind of environment – the Amazon Rainforest!
Thanks to the work phs Besafe has completed with Shield 360 in 2017, we’ve been able to contribute to the planting of 250 new trees in one of the most important environmental areas on the planet. Often referred to as ‘the lungs of the earth’, the Amazon Rainforest is estimated to produce more than 20% of the world’s oxygen!
It’s a dangerous time for the 44,000 plant and animal species, and over 2.5 million different insects that populate the area as deforestation threatens their territory, and risks the health of the whole planet. This particular replanting project, run by onetreeplanted.org, aims to maintain some of this important habitat as well as absorb some of the CO2 that the developed world pumps into the atmosphere on a daily basis.
The reforestation will also help some of the 500 or so indigenous tribes that live in the area re-gain access to the shelter, medicines, food and work for which these trees are responsible.
By using organic products in our laundries and environmentally-friendly washing processes that increase the longevity of our clients’ workwear, phs Besafe is already demonstrating respect for our planet. We’re happy to be able to offer a little more aid by planting the trees which are each expected to absorb around 2kg of CO2 each year – that’s a total of 0.5 tonnes annually!
